What Do Branding And Fashion Hunting Have In Common?

As a woman entrepreneur, you may be surprised that business “branding” is a lot like one of the hobbies that so many women out there today love, that hobby being “fashion”.  Don’t be mistaken, it isn’t all glitz and glamor, creating a brand is hard work, however there are a lot of similarities in “fashion” and “business branding”.  In fact,we as women entrepreneurs can learn from those in the fashion industry.

How? You may ask.  It is quite simple look at what they are doing.  When you go shopping for a new dress what do you do?

First, you determine where you are going to wear the dress?   What is the occasion, you want it to fit in with the atmosphere right?  If you’re wearing it to a wedding it must be formal most likely.  If you’re wearing it to the park for a picnic you would want it to be casual and cool.  In business, you want your “dress” or your “brand” to fit where you want it to fit in.  In this case it would be your “niche”.  Is your niche “work at home moms” or is your niche “professional speakers”.  You will create your brand based on this and other factors.

Next, think about how you want your potential clients and customers to feel.  Emotional connections can help you go a long way in business.  This relates to fashion so when you go to pick out a new dress, you want to “feel” good in it, you want it to make you feel beautiful.  Think of your brand the same way you want your brand to make others “feel” a certain way.  Determine what that is and shoot to accomplish that feeling.

Finally, tie it all together, if you were going shopping, you’d tie your outfit together with accessories, for a wedding you might buy pearl earrings and a necklace, a small handbag and a shawl.  The same is true for your brand, embellish it in all the right areas, help it shine.

You didn’t know that branding your business could be like fashion hunting did you?  We learn something new every day!

You Are Your Brand

As a business owner, it is important to be aware of the fact that you are your brand.  Many business owners spend tons of time and money trying to discover and develop their own branding, when the truth is you are your own brand.  If you realize this early on you are aware of  how easy it is to take your own personality, your own strengths and who you are to develop a strong, personal brand that can be a powerful marketing tool for your business.

Business women in particularly can use this to their significant advantage.  More often than not women are intuitive and in touch with themselves and enjoy discovering their own unique personality, gifts, talents and strengths.  Once they do so, they are then able to turn those things into a winning brand for their business.  So, what is an enjoyable journey for most women becomes a powerful business tool as well.  Why not use what you may already enjoy learning about yourself to add an element to your business that can truly allow you to stand out and be even more successful.

Using yourself to build your brand can save you time, money and headache.  It really is simple.  There are a few things you’ll need to remember.

Determine your “style and tone”. You will want to utilize this when choosing a graphical representation of your  brand and you’ll want to stick with it.  This can mean your colors, fonts, and other graphics.  You will want these to be a clear reflection of who you are and how you want others to view you.  You will want to use the same graphics across the board wherever you represent yourself both online and off.

You will also want to stick with a particular tone in your business.  Will your business be all serious or will you choose to use a bit of humor or sarcasm here and there.  Again, this will need to be a direct result of your own personality and will vary from person to person.

Mark your territory. This may sound a bit odd but you want to make sure that you secure your brand’s place everywhere you can from social media sites to domain names.  Be sure to claim your preferred user name on all the major social networking sites and the domain names that go with your brand.  It is highly suggested that you secure your own name as a domain name as well.  Secure your user name on the different sites even if you aren’t currently utilizing them.  You can’t obtain them once they are gone.

Spread the word. Once you’ve determined your brand, you’ll want to begin spreading the world about  who you are and what you are able to share with the world.  What do you have to offer, what do you want to become known for?  This is what you’ll begin to share with the others, one tweet at a time, one article at a time, one promotion at time.

Now that you know how easy it is to take who you are to build your brand why not get started? It really is a strong powerful tool for your business.

Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition…

It’s been couple days since we started writing down our food log. So what did you find out? Do you drink enough water? Do you eat too much sweats? Maybe you don’t get enough vitamins, fiber, nutrition? I wanted you to change 1 think last week and I’m going forward this week. How about changing 1 more thing?

In recent study it was confirmed that poor health behavior can cause premature mortality, indicating that modest, but sustained improvements to diet and lifestyle could have significant public health benefits. Risky behaviors studied were lack of physical acitivity (less than 2 hours per week), diet (less than 3 servings of fruit/veggies per day), smoking and alcohol consumption. Study appeared in Archives of Internal Medicine.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to develop and keep healthy habits. It’s not about how successful you are or how much money you have. It’s about how long you want to live and how healthy you want to be. So let this be an inspiration for you to jump on board and join us for our 21 days Get Ready For Summer Challenge.

Business in a Box

The short answer is “Because…”: Why I started a work-at-home business!

At cocktail parties (not that we get out much after becoming parents), people ask me what I do and I explain, “I work from home doing what I love and raising my daughter.”

I know I’m talking to a corporate captive when this answer gets the scrunched up face and the quizzical look that implies they think it’s a cover story for watching Oprah all day. Then they think about it and say something like, “I could never work from home. I would go crazy!” I take that to mean they spend most of their days socializing with coworkers and not actually doing any work (studies support me in this belief).

The polite ones usually ask why I decided to do that – why take on the challenge of working from home AND raising a child. And thinking about it I realized that it seems kind of crazy. Both are more than full-time occupations and I’ve signed myself up for two!

The short answer is “Because…”

Because I get to take my morning coffee breaks with a spirited child who in the blink of an eye went from a wiggly baby to a busy 5-year-old. Because even when my daughter is with her nanny, I can hear the sound of laughter from my office. Because when it’s nice out, I can play hooky and go to the paddling pool.

Because I want my child to grow up on home-cooked meals made with lots of love just the way she likes it. Because I want to teach her how to cook from scratch the way my mother and aunts did for me, not reheat grayish goop from a can.

Because I want to raise my daughter to believe that anything is possible by showing her by example. Because I want her to create her own universe without fear or self-doubt. It’s not enough to give the valiant speeches anymore – kids need to see it.

Because I want her to know that even as she heads out into this big world, that she has me there as her backstop, the way she does today when a boo-boo sends her rushing into my office for a cuddle and a band aid treatment the way only Doctor Mommy can do it.

So yes, sometimes it means I need to work late at night to catch-up on the work that didn’t happen during playtime. Yes, sometimes the laundry sits in the dryer so long that it’s just easier to wash it again. Yes, sometimes I feel like a zombie because the one morning I have to get up early to give a speech is the morning after the night my daughter has a bad sleep.

But it’s worth it. Why? Because…

Healthy Nutrition Habits

How are you doing with your nutrition diary? Have you realized any eating habits? My diary says I keep getting cravings at 10pm and I need to make sure I have something healthy on hand before I get to my “sweet” cupboard. Otherwise I’ll probably end up having chocolate. How about you? Any patterns so far that you need to change?

I’d like you to do couple things starting today:

1. Keep writing your journal keeping track of everything you eat plus applicable times. Please, no cheating. I won’t come to read your daily log. I want you to be sincere and write down everything.

2. Start looking at your fruits/veggies servings. How many times a day do you have them? From now on make sure you have at least 3 servings of fruits/veggies each day. Make sure you go for fresh fruits/veggies. Canned fruit might taste good, but won’t count for our challenge.

3. Take a close look at your bad nutrition habits. What 1 thing can you stop doing or eating? I’m particularly aiming at alcohol and tobacco, but things like lots of sugar or salt counts as well. For example, my aim is to not eat anything but fruits/veggies after 9 pm.

Let me know how you’re keeping up. I’m looking forward to hear about your victories! You can do it! I believe in you!

Get Ready for Summer – Update

As promised, I’m here with update on our Get Ready For Summer Challenge. We received many questions and we’re trying to respond as fast as possible, but please, bear with me as I’m taking this challenge with you. I liked some questions so much that I decided to post them right here on our blog. So let’s dig deep now.

What is Get Ready For Summer Challenge about?

Thanks for asking! You can find more information here, plus check links below the article to access specific steps we’ve taken so far.

Why can’t I find specific numbers on how much should I exercise or what and how much should I eat?

Each of us has different lifestyle, different figure and personality. So rather than being specific about numbers I decided to motivate YOU to set your own goals, create your own plan and what we’re providing on this blog as well as our facebook page is mostly motivation and inspiration. This way you will keep going whether you exercise 1/2 hour daily or not at all.  Our main focus is to get ready for summer, create healthy habits you will keep even in upcoming weeks and months.

I’d like to exercise, but I don’t have a gym membership and I have no idea where to start.

During our challenge we shared with you a fabulous resource to get you moving. So don’t just wonder around, go ahead and check them out right now. Make exercise simple, easy and fun!

How many servings of fruits and veggies should I have on a daily basis? How about optimum exercise?

It all depends on your body shape and status. But basically 3 servings of fruits/veggies should be enough (it won’t hurt you if you have more) and about 2 and half hours of exercise per week is optimum for a healthy lifestyle. Again, it all depends on status of your body and other factors. It’s well known fact that people who damage their body with tobacco and alcohol won’t be able to reduce health risks just by starting a good nutrition program. Your first step should be to stop smoking and/or drinking alcohol. If it’s your case, feel free to contact us for great programs out there to help you get out of your dangerous habits.

Healthy Choices – GRS Day 9

Admit it. You always have a choice. It’s not about time, money, habits, or your background. It’s just the choice you make. I keep wondering why it seems easier to buy a cup of coffee at the store than make your own. Why do you buy a burger instead of salad. It’s just your preference, your choice, your decision. So let’s change it this week. Let’s think about health. Are your eating habits healthy? Do you eat smaller portions more times a day? Do you eat enough fruits and veggies?

No, I don’t want you to start dieting. I just want you to take a close look at your eating habits. What do you eat throughout a day? Write it down if you can. Keep writing your list for at least 3-4 days. Whatever you eat or drink goes on the list. That’s it. Start your list today. Right now. I’ll be back tomorrow with another list for you.

Get Ready for Summer Day 7

We are on day 7 of our Get Ready For Summer Challenge and from your feedback I know life’s starting to interfere. Yes, we have busy schedules, yes, we have families and yes, we don’t feel like it’s going to make any difference. But you know what? We are our best investment. And we are determined to take a good care of our health and personal growth as much as we can. As strong, beautiful and intelligent women this is exactly what we want to do.

So what’s stopping you from making this summer your best ever? You know it takes determination, time and consistency to replace your old habits with new ones. And we’re here to help you. We’ll be glad to support you on this way to fabulous you. What we worked on so far is our sleep habits and exercise. Sleeping min. 7 hours per day will increase your energy, focus and you will get more done during a day. Plus you will fight aging a big way. Exercising doesn’t have to be hard. I’m a big fan of small beginnings and adding harder stuff gradually. If you are a beginner starting from scratch we recommended you to start with 5 min. every day, once it becomes easy add another 5 min. and another 5 and so on until you reach your desired length. We’ll talk more about exercising home vs. exercising in the gym tomorrow. Don’t forget to stop by.
